Good news for procrastinators! The College Board has extended the deadline to enter its Opportunity Scholarships program! All you have to do is complete a few simple tasks online BY JULY 31 to qualify for up to $40,000!
For the first time in its history, the College Board is giving away money to reward applicants for doing all the normal things they have to do anyway to apply to college. July 31 is the program’s next deadline, and qualifying is super easy: Just create an account, then build a list of 6+ colleges on their designated website, BigFuture, to be eligible for the $40,000 Complete Your Journey scholarship.
While you’re at it, you might as well get in a few SAT practice sessions and potentially get paid for them, too: Students in the class of 2020 who use the free Official SAT Practice on Khan Academy can earn a chance at a $1,000 scholarship. The College Board will award 150 of these “Practice” scholarships every month through October 2019.
Again, qualifying is easy: Just practice for six hours on Khan Academy to qualify and earn one entry in the monthly drawing. Earn one entry for each additional hour you practice, up to a total of 20 hours.
I don’t love the College Board, but I would remiss if I didn’t strongly encourage rising seniors to register for Opportunity Scholarships, then take the minimal steps required to qualify for them. After all, the College Board extended the first deadline, which suggests that they may be lower on registrations than they thought they would be by now. So go for it! Time, and numbers, are on your side!
